Etsy is an online store where people sell stuff they make or customize (and if you don't know, now you know -Notorious B.I.G). And it is personally one of my favorite online stores; I can get caught up and spend hours and hours on there. So here are a few of my favorite finds:
I can't believe I'm left with only one more month of school! This past year has flown by so fast, it's insane. I have big hopes for my future, post-cosmetology school; one happens to be moving. I have my eyes, mind and heart set on moving to Austin, Tx. This is 3-4 hours away from where I currently reside, so I'm a little nervous but anxious (in a good way) for new beginnings.
So in honor of me having my first every place on my own, I put together a little wish list of what I hope to have in my apartment. *wink wink mom if you're reading this*
here are a few of my favorites available on netflix:
lars and the real girl
1hr 46min, rated: pg13
this movie stars ryan gosling as a young man inlove with a life-sized sex doll who he believes is his girlfriend. this movie has a very awkward story line; but its such a beautiful heart-wrenching movie and is appropriate for younger teens. this movie takes me on a roller-coaster of emotions; and im a sucker for ryan gosling. hubba bubba!
nowhere boy
1hr 39min, rated: R
nowhere boy is a tribute to john lennons (early) life; it takes you through the relationship with his mother and aunt, as well as the progression and growth of the beatles. its a super fun movie to watch, even if you're not the biggest beatles fan.
bronson
1hr 32min, rated: R
such a guys movie, but as a girl i enjoy it just as much as a manly man. this movie reviews the life and times of charlie bronson, a notorious prisoner. stars tom hardy, who im also a sucker for, who plays as bronson. this movie makes me a little anxious but its such a compelling movie to watch.
my favorite t.v. shows on netflix:
wilfred, hey arnold, what not to wear, trailer park boys, adventure time, ed edd n' eddy, chowder, the office, and toddlers & tiaras.....
yup. is doctor who good? i think i want to watch that series next.
writing this blog post made me realize i'm the worst movie reviewer ever! but trust me all the movies are worth your while.
as november comes to an end, i wanted to share some of the things i obsessed over this month.
number one: fleece lined leggings/tights
i'm guilty! yes, im one of those girls who wears leggings as pants. and i don't care. they're comfy, and i feel like i'm wearing pj's in public, and i like it, so don't judge me.
i recently purchased fleece lined leggings from urban outfitters.
i went into buy these for 2 reasons. one, being that its getting really cold and my buns need fleece warmth. and two, alot of black tights become see-through when you bend over, and i don't like that con. these were on a promotion; 2 for 22$ and i have been wearing mine every day since i bought them (thats not an exaggeration...) they feel like heaven!
number two: neutrogena grapefruit wipes
when i take my makeup off at night, i usually use a liquid eye makeup remover for my mascara and eyebrows then usually forget to take off my foundation. or maybe im just too lazy. i don't like washing my face at night. i don't know what it is, i just get lazy and never do it. so with the oily remover on my skin and the left over face make up, i usually feel dirty in the morning or get blemishes.
so, i started buying these grapefruit wipes for the purpose of replacing the face washing stage with a wipe. i just bring it to my bed, wipe my face, like a million times then dispose of it in the trashcan near my bed. it still lets me be lazy without being gross. it leaves the most refreshing feeling; which actually helps me sleep. i love the way in makes my skin feel, i love the smell, i love the results, i love the connivence of it. all around an amazing product.
number three: superfuit on youtube
superfruit are two friends that post youtube video every tuesday, and they are so funny and charming and entertaining. there's just something about them that i adore.
here's one of their videos....enjoy.
number four: .......... HARRY STYLES
enough said. mine. ugh.
so, that's what i've been obsessing over during november.
in january, aveda will be launching a new product for the dry remedy line. i was lucky enough to get this product before the public and try it out as a stylist.
about the product:
its part of aveda dry remedy line; instantly puts 60% of moisture back into your hair.
its an oil used on dry hair; apply 2-3 drops starting at ends and working up. apply to dry hair to get rid frizz, and smooth dry ends.
does not contain any silicones; most oil products contain silicone which can weigh down the hair or make it appear greasy.
made from buriti oil from brazil.
comes to aveda stores in january 2014.
my first impressions:
as a female with fine textured hair, i find that most oil products make my hair greasy and piece-y. so when i first used this i was very happy to see that my hair did not look greasy; it made my hair very shine-y and smooth. for my hair, i would only use 2 drops, out of preference. it has a very earthy smell (as do all aveda products). i would recommend this to anyone, and everyone with dry hair, frizzy hair, or fine hair.
as i have mentioned in a previous blog post, i attend aveda institute (for hair). and since i have been there my hair has seen major improvements. my hair has always had a difficult time growing and i never really understood why; ive worn (clip in) hair extensions for about two years! but while attending school, and through my own discoveries and i have found out what works (for me and my hair) to help strengthen and grow. so here are some of my tips, for all of you ladies who struggle with your hair growth pattern.
FYI: if you've always had a problem with hair growth, it may just be that your genetic growth cycle is shorter than others.
1. DO NOT BRUSH YOUR HAIR WITH A PADDLE BRUSH WHEN WET
*especially if you have fine/thin hair
when your hair is wet, it is more vulnerable to stretching. and when you brush with a paddle brush it will stretch it passed its capacity and break it off, giving the illusion that your hair isn't growing. instead use a comb! COMB COMB COMB
2. PROTECT FROM HEAT
*duh....
heat #1: blow drying, flat irons, curling irons, ect. this means using a product that will protect from thermals. so easy to find..
heat #2: the sun. this means using a product that has UV protection.
here are the products i use:
they're both by aveda, and have reasonable prices. you want to put these in towel dried hair (70-80% dry). for the damage remedy use a dime size amount through ends. the brilliant damage control has the UV protection, thermal protection, and also detangles. use about 3-4 sprays in hair, and comb through.
heat #3: hot water. im not saying dont take a hot shower. im saying when you rinse your hair use room temp-cool water. why?! because, hot water will open up your hairs cuticle and will stay open, which will result is the open cuticles getting caught on each other creating tangles, and breakage. so rinse with COOL COOL COOL water.
3. MASSAGE YOUR SCALP///NATURAL OILS
if you still don't see results this may be your saving grace. hair needs blood flow to grow. so at night you can massage your scalp to create your own blood flow.
OR
when your hair is on the dirty side, brush it. the natural oils are the best oils!! if you distribute them to the ends they cure and repair your hair, and it also doubles as massaging your scalp. use a paddle brush; (but) if your hair is tangled start from the bottom and work your way up. do not brush through all those tangles. thats a no-no! (it's okay to wash your hair every day, but you'll benefit more with hair growth and damage repair if you skip a day; so you can use the oils)
SIDE TIP: put your hair up when you sleep (with a scrunchy or soft band), this will also help hair fall out!
*also, remember to get your hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks. that will help get rid of the bad, and also stop split ends (which prevents hair from growing).
those are a few of my tips and tricks. i hope those help out a little bit.
